Bringing Everyone to the Table: White House Health Care Stakeholder Discussions

This is not a Democratic or Republic issue, it’s an American issue. It is the single biggest challenge facing this country, facing this economy, and it is our President’s number one priority.”

– HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, 5/5/09

Health Reform is one of President Obama’s top priorities, and the President recognizes that it is important for everyone to have a voice in the process.  The Administration has hosted several Health Care Stakeholder Discussions at the White House, including with small business owners, rural Americans, and health care providers.  These discussions are part of a larger effort to engage with Americans across the county.  During the transition, more than 3,000 Community Discussions were held across the country, and the comments and recommendations were included in a final report, Americans Speak on Health Reform.

Health Care and Rural Americans

Health Care and Rural AmericansThere are nearly 50 million people living in rural America who face unique challenges accessing quality and affordable health care.  That’s why farmers, teachers, and small-business owners from rural America gathered at the White House on May 4th to discuss the challenges unique to those outside of the country’s urban centers. Rural Americans report more health problems, and are more likely to be without health insurance than citizens living in urban areas. DeParle made a point to emphasize President Obama’s commitment to enacting comprehensive health reform that will help rural Americans by lowering costs, guaranteeing choice of doctors and plans, and assuring quality and affordable coverage for all Americans.
